Setting the Tone for the Year
Creating a strong culture of community from day one is essential. Setting a positive tone early in the school year lays the foundation for success and connection throughout the months ahead.
I love using this "All About Me" activity during the first week of school. It serves several important purposes:
First, it gives me valuable insight into who my students are as learners. At the beginning of the year, I know very little about them, and this activity gives me a head start in building strong relationships and understanding each student on a deeper level.
Second, it gives students a chance to reflect on their strengths, challenges, and goals. It allows them to communicate what they want me to know about them, giving them a sense of ownership in shaping their path for a successful year.
This is a simple activity that students can complete in class or take home to work on with their families. I also give my students the opportunity to share some of their responses with the class, which helps build connections and encourages relationship-building during the first few days of the school year.
